Dubai Run 2025 transforms Sheikh Zayed Road into a sea of blue and unity
Thousands of participants of all ages showcase community spirit and fitness enthusiasm
DUBAI – Dubai woke up to a sight unlike any other on Sunday morning as Sheikh Zayed Road was transformed into a vibrant running track for the seventh edition of Dubai Run.
Tens of thousands of participants, from toddlers to seniors, joined in the free-to-enter community event, bringing with them LED-lit wristbands, national flags and inflatable costumes.
Against the golden glow of the rising sun, stunt paramotors soared overhead waving the UAE and Dubai Fitness Challenge flags. It was more than a run. It was a celebration, a spectacle of fitness, diversity and unity.
Families, friends, colleagues and first-timers gathered from as early as 3am, making their way to the start lines via metro or taxi, eager to be part of one of the world’s largest community runs.
Early start
The Dubai Metro began operations at 3am, offering close-interval trains to accommodate the thousands heading to the start points. Participants in the 5km run alighted at Dubai World Trade Centre station, while the Emirates Towers station catered to those running the 10km route.
Barriers and security teams managed crowd flow at key metro stations, ensuring safety and comfort. Some participants even camped overnight in the Half Desert before making their way to the venue.
The excitement was palpable, with inflatable costumes, DJs, drummers and enthusiastic volunteers adding to the festive atmosphere.
Dubai Run begins
At 6:41am, cheers erupted across the highway as the run officially started, with supercars cruising past in a thrilling parade. Stunning aerial stunts lit up the dawn skies, inspiring participants as they set off down the iconic Dubai artery.
Families, individuals and corporate teams made their way through the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Waves of participants turned Sheikh Zayed Road into a sea of blue, as runners in their official Dubai Run shirts created a mesmerising visual for spectators and photographers.
Community spirit
Among the participants were first-timers from Kenya, seniors who have been part of the event for years, and families with infants tucked into strollers. One 11-month-old baby was seen taking refreshments during his first 5km experience, while another family said they wanted their baby to feel the joy and energy of the event.
Participants spoke of the privilege of running on Sheikh Zayed Road, normally bustling with fast cars but for a few hours reserved for footsteps, laughter and fitness celebration. Corporate groups joined to promote team synergy and healthy lifestyles, showcasing banners and unity along the track.
Routes split
At the first interchange, volunteers directed participants using large signboards. Runners on the 5km course moved toward Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard to finish around the Dubai Mall, while the 10km route led through the DIFC tunnel, ending near Gate Village. Crowd control teams spaced runners appropriately, ensuring safety and smooth movement.
Dubai Police monitored the stretches, conducting safety sweeps and keeping the atmosphere secure throughout the event.
Music played at various points, and some participants created spontaneous concerts along the way, dancing and playing drums. The highway became a lively social experience as people stopped to pose, wave flags, and snap memorable photos.
Aerial performers returned for a second display as runners paused to watch and capture the moment. Water stations and recycling bins were placed throughout the stretch, reflecting sustainability efforts, with water bottles collected for recycling.
Final moments
Before 9:30am, many participants had completed their runs and headed toward the metro stations, which saw large crowds boarding trains to return home. The last of the runners were escorted along the road, with barricades still in place for their protection.
Signages were gradually taken down as authorities conducted final security checks and clean-ups. Shortly after 9:49am, barricades were removed, and by 10:19am, Sheikh Zayed Road reopened to traffic.
Wrapped in smiles
From Abu Dhabi residents who made the trip at 2am to people participating one last time before moving abroad, stories of commitment and joy echoed throughout the day. Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of a community initiative that embraces fitness, diversity and togetherness.
The Dubai Run once again created memories, showcasing the city’s spirit of inclusion, wellness and celebration.
